AVICENNA RESEARCH CENTRE FOR UNANI MEDICINE (ARCUM) established in 1992 at pune (State of Maharastra) by students of Z. V. M. UNANI MEDICAL COLLEGE and HOSPITAL, Pune, under the supervision of HAKIM SAEED EHSAN KADRI , B.U.M.M.S. (ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY , INDIA). The founder members of ARCUM are DR.SHAIKH MOHAMMED HUSSAIN (MUMBAI). DR.KHALID SAIFUL HAI ANSARI (NANDED), DR.SHAIKH MOHAMMED IRFAN (MUMBAI), DR.SHAIKH SHAKEEL AHMED (MUMBAI), DR.SHAIKH ABDUL RAUF (BHUSAWAL, JALGAON) , DR.AZIM AHMED SIDDIQUE (MUMBAI) .The age of these younger doctors were 21 to 22 at the time of establishment of ARCUM. The first research was on Rheumatoid Arthritis (Project name – Athrin ). The formulation was scrutinized and approved by Hakim Saeed Ehsan Kadri .The all founder members contributed expenses for project- Athrin . The Athrin capsules was provided to Rheumatoid Arthritis patients free of charge.The trial were conducted on 15 pateints . The continue use of Athrin capsule upto three months shows satisfactory results . The most of the patients got relief . but due to lack of financial support , research were discontinued . The trial were also incomplete. The interest for research in Unani Medicine remain same in these junior and future scientists. The ARCUM office were operated at MOTI VILLA , FATIMA NAGAR , PUNE , at the residence of DR.S.M. HUSSAIN , till My 1995.The ARCUM’s fonder member DR.S.M.HUSSAIN established INTERNATIONAL OFFICE of ARCUM at Mumbai in 1997 and provided a platform for physicians , scholars , and scientist of Unani System of Medicine to work together at one banner. The renowned scholars and physicians of Unani Medicine join the ARCUM and Supported by their experience.
